Frequently Asked Questions

Canoe And Kayak Rental

Do you have an alcohol policy?
Yes, please see our river rules. We are promoting a safe, family atmosphere and do not want guests who may surrender to one or all of the 3 basic “udes”: nude, lewd, or crude.

Are pets allowed?
On the river: We promote paddling including dog paddling! Friendly pets are welcome. Leashes are required. At the B&B: For the comfort of all, we have a ‘Cede is the only pet policy.

Do we paddle back?
The AuSable has a current of 3 to 5 miles per hour. It can be done, but it won’t be fun. One of our helpful staffers will be at your destination to pick you and the canoes and kayaks up and bring you back to Borchers.

Can we bring our own watercraft?
Yes, we offer shuttle service, haul back of your watercraft if you have also rented some of our watercraft, and limited launch service. There is a fee for all services.

Can we bring tubes?
Sorry, no tubes. The DNR does not allow a commercial permit for tubes on the upper stretches of the AuSable River. From Grayling to the first landing is 2 1/2 hours by canoe, 5 hours by tube. It is typically too long to endure the refreshing temperatures of the AuSable River.

Bed & Breakfast

Will we have kitchen privileges?
If you are renting the whole house, kitchen privileges are allowed. If you are sharing the house with friends you just met by being a b&b guest, please be courteous. Either way, we prefer that you keep it simple, please no preparing gourmet meals from scratch. There is a grill and picnic tables for our guests use. Refrigerator space, ice, glasses, microwave, etcetera for your use.
